Structure: Is your response logically organized? Answers with clear beginnings, middles, and ends score higher than stream-of-consciousness responses. Specificity: "I have experience with database migrations" is a claim. Talk through your answers out loud. Not in your head. Out loud. Record yourself. The difference between how you believe you sound explaining a distributed systems design and how you actually sound on your first unrehearsed attempt is often significant. Watch the recording. 2. Prepare Specific Stories in STAR Format

For behavioral questions, have five to seven specific career stories ready covering the major themes: a technical challenge you solved under pressure, a time you disagreed with a decision and navigated it well, a project that failed and what you learned, an example of delivering results without direct authority, and a collaboration that required active repair.

For each story, know the specific outcome — ideally with a number. "The feature shipped on time" is acceptable. "The feature shipped four days early and reduced support tickets by 30% in the first month" is significantly stronger. Numbers survive AI evaluation. Vague qualitative assessments do not.

3. Build a Technical Vocabulary List

Identify ten to fifteen core technical concepts most likely to come up for your target role. For each concept, practice a 60-90 second explanation that defines it correctly, explains when and why it matters, gives a concrete example from your actual experience, and notes one real tradeoff or edge case.
